The flip side of grief is chaos.
The flip side of grief is pain.
But the real flip side of grief
is creativity,
creativity that bursts,
creativity that explodes,
creativity that drowns the pain
and silences the chaos,
creativity that makes order
out of disordered thought,
creativity that discerns tangible in
the intangible emotional mess.

Grief is ionizing radiation.
Radiation that causes mutations
in out DNA and thus advances the frontiers of life,
life that is adapting itself to the most hostile environments,
life that is resilient and varied,
life that is essentially perpetual.

So thank grief,
thank trouble,
thank commotion,
thank pain and confusion
for these are the true
motive forces of life.
These are the true motive forces
of creation.

These are the elements
that take us out of our comfort zone
and push us towards something new.

Yes, the feeling is uncomfortable.
The heart is burning,
the tears are rolling,
the hands are bleeding,
the veins are pulsing,
the skin is rough and itching.
But all of this is a small price to pay
for what lies beneath,
beneath the horizon that we can see,
beneath the horizon that we can feel,
beneath the horizon of our own thought.
This is the boundary that we can’t breach
when we are calm and content.

Only grief can cause waves
that lift us higher than ever before,
and propel us towards the unknown,
opening up the corridors
that we have never walked before,
giving us words that we have never spoken before,
giving us feelings that we have never felt before.

Embrace grief.
It is your friend.
It is your enemy only if you can’t tame it.
