Максим Фомичёв-Замилов | Поэзия и проза

Fear is paralyzing.

Fear is an unblinking stare of a snake,
The stare that hypnotizes prey,
Robbing it of the will to fight.

Fear is ice,
The ice that can crush even the biggest of ships.

Fear is a foul bog,
The bog that can drown even the most experienced of explorers.

Fear is arresting.

Fear is the burn that precedes fire.
Fear is the disappointment that precedes challenge.
Fear is the hurt that precedes tribulation.
Fear is a handcuff for the mind.

Fear can be soothing,
Like a painkiller before euthanasia.

Fear can be sweet
As a convenient lie in the face of denial.

Sometimes we feel that fear is to be desired.
It is soothing to believe
That by giving in we will be safe,
That by giving up we will remain secure.

We believe
That we can be friends with fear
And survive.

Vermin survive where dragons perish.
But nobody writes songs about mice.
Choose to be a dragon.
